McLeod Park is a very nice Hancock County campground on the Jordan River, just north of I-10. It is a perfect destination for combining camping with boating and water sports. It is near NASA Stennis Space Center, so you may be treated to a show of military aircraft landing nearby during the day and small twin engine planes in the evening. Bay St. Louis, MS is nearby, featuring quaint shops and restaurants.

The campsites are spacious and well maintained. You have options of camping under a tree canopy, in more open sites, or along the river. We observed several campers with their boats tied off at their campsite. A boat launch is available onsite.

We did not have any trouble reserving four campsites together on the river for a special family event. There are also two pavilions available for rental at a very reasonable rate.

The park has a very nice playground, which includes a wet area. There is also a natural beach access area. We saw a Frisbee golf net, but we did not explore the full course. It’s a great place for children (and adults) to ride scooters and bikes. A snow cone truck drove past our campsite several times during the day, which was a real treat.
As is typical for government owned campgrounds, WiFi is not available. Unfortunately, cell reception is not the best. Campers are required to bring their garbage to the dumpsters, which are located near the park entrance, rather than a central location. This may be problematical for those camping in a motor home without additional transportation, such as a golf cart.
